Our mission

Food that shouldn't go to waste

A global challenge.

According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), 1.05 billion tonnes of food were wasted worldwide in 2022 โ€” almost one fifth of all food available to consumers. That equals more than a billion meals every day, while 783 million people go hungry. Food loss and waste produce 8โ€“10% of global greenhouse gas emissions, and their economic cost exceeds US$1 trillion a year.

The situation in Georgia.

UNEP estimates that one person in Georgia throws away an average of 101 kg of food a year (households) โ€” more than 400,000 tonnes in total. About 40% of the waste reaching landfills is organic, while around 9.5% of the population lives with severe food insecurity.

Our solution.

ArGadaagdo lets Georgia's bakeries, cafes, restaurants and shops offer good-quality food left at the end of the day to customers at a discount, in "Lunch Boxes". Customers save, businesses earn extra income, and the country reduces its waste.

Our impact.

Every Lunch Box rescues about 1 kg of food and avoids about 2.7 kg of COโ‚‚ emissions.* (* internal estimate)

The 101 kg figure covers households only. UNEP rates it as a medium-confidence estimate; for Georgia it draws on a study carried out in Kutaisi.
